Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
During the winter months, we all see an increase in our heating bills which can be a financial burden for low-income households. However, we are here to help those individuals and families in need. Through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), we can assist eligible households pay for a portion of their winter heating costs. This program is funded by the Department of Health and Human Services through the Iowa Department of Human Rights/DCCA. The money that households receive is paid directly to their energy provider. Assistance is based on several factors including total household income, household size, dwelling type, heating fuel type, among others. Eligibility for this program is established according to federal income guidelines. For more on those guidelines, please click here.
For our clients, receiving this money is important. "Due to having a recent surgery, my medical bills are mounting," said one of our clients. "If it was not for LIHEAP, I am not sure what I would have done this winter, without the help from this program."
