Mission & History

About Our Organization

Our Mission

Dedicated to building partnerships, strengthening families, and alleviating the causes and conditions of poverty.

Who We Are

Community Action Agency of Siouxland was created in 1971 to help people through economic crises and help them make it on their own. We are a private, nonprofit human services organization. Our Board of Directors is composed of local public officials, business leaders and representatives of the low-income community. Some of our former clients are now board members, directing our mission. There are 16 Community Action Agencies serving all of Iowa.

What We Do

We administer programs that help us carry out our goal of providing short-term aid and encouraging long-term change. These programs include: Early Childhood Education, Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, Community Services, Food Assistance, Child and Adult Care Food Program, Child Care Nurse Consultant, Family Development and Self-Sufficiency, Weatherization and many others.

Who We Help

We primarily serve low-income residents in Woodbury County, but there are exceptions. The Child and Adult Care Food Program operates in Cherokee, Ida, Plymouth, and Woodbury counties, as well as, our Weatherization Program helps people in both Monona and Woodbury counties.

Eligibility determination is based on the federal poverty guidelines. Since guidelines vary by program, we encourage all individuals to apply to see what programs they may be eligible for.
